Luther & Bach

No Bach without Luther .... only very rarely did Johann Sebastian Bach compose his own chorale melodies but rather took over those of others, including Luther’s own compositions. Perhaps the most famous Bach cantata is “A mighty fortress is our God” by Martin Luther. The creation and the history of the reception and influence of many of Bach’s works are brought to life by a modern exhibition and hourly live concerts in the Bach Museum in Eisenach, the town where Bach was born.

In addition, the Thuringian Bach Weeks every spring, the largest classical music festival in Thuringia, promise a very special cultural experience. At the festival concerts, which are primarily held at authentic Bach venues, visitors can discover the historic musical state of Thuringia.
